Snowboarder Connor Gill, a 26-year-old Denver resident, has been missing for more than a week after being reported to Vail ߣÏÈÉú Patrol as overdue at 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 14.

This week, Vail Search and Rescue and Vail ߣÏÈÉú Patrol teams probed the trees alongside black diamond runs line Pickeroon and Berries looking for Gill, who is described as a 6-foot, 195-pound intermediate snowboarder who was last seen wearing an orange ski suit with blue parts on the top.

Vail Search and Rescue is currently directing questions about the status of the search to the Sheriff’s Office, which had not released any new details as of Friday afternoon.

The abundance of snow received since Gill was declared missing is suspected as the primary reason he still hasn’t been found.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 14, Vail’s mid-mountain snow stake (located near the Chair 2 area where Gill was last seen) recorded 4 inches of fresh snow and was cleared at that time. By the time Gill got to the slopes, there were probably 6 inches of fresh snow on the ground.

Twenty-four hours later, after Gill was reported as overdue, there was another 14-16 inches of new snow on the snow stake.

And more snow continued to hamper search efforts, as another 11 inches was recorded on Sunday morning, another 8 inches on Monday, 6 inches on Tuesday and 5 inches on Wednesday.

All told, Vail Mountain recorded the most fresh snow of any resort in Colorado over the Presidents’ Day weekend.

On Friday — a week after Gill was reported missing — 6 inches of fresh snow was recorded on Vail Mountain. That brings the total accumulation to 52 inches, more than 4 feet of fresh snow since Gill was reported missing.

For that reason, crews probed flat sections of runout as well as steep sections of tight trees in their search for Gill this week, as both terrain types could obscure objects from view in the deep snow conditions.
